The Writer

I Know Why the Blocked Writer Sings

Sometimes the page stays empty until you stop demanding it be perfect.

I carry a notebook everywhere, and most days it stays mostly blank. That used to feel like failure. Now I think of it as listening. The sentences that matter arrive when I stop chasing them: in the car, in the shower, halfway through a song. Writing is how I make sense of what I’ve already lived, and how I find out what I actually think.
